New Comer Funeral Services was seeking land in the Town of Colonie to build a new funeral home. They acquired 2.5 acres of property at 181 Troy-Schenectady Road in the Town of Colonie, Albany County, NY as a place to build their new facility.
This project involved the new construction of a 6,000 square foot funeral home, a 1,000 square foot fleet garage and parking for 100 vehicles.
The former site, a restaurant, was demolished. Geotechnical reports determined the site contained unconsolidated fill unsuitable for structural foundation construction. The building pad needed to be excavated and replaced with clean structural fill. The stormwater design incorporated green infrastructure practices to treat parking lot runoff. Parking space was desired; the design leveraged underground stormwater detention utilizing 8 ft diameter pipe followed by a sand filter to treat stormwater runoff before entering into the nearby wetland and tributary to the Dry River.
In 2014, New Comer began the site plan approval process by integrating our staff, Treanor Architects (Architect) and New Comer’s in-house Design & Construction Team. The Teams were separated by over 1,000 miles; cutting edge design and communication tools were employed to streamline multi-discipline coordination to meet the challenging construction schedule.
In September 2015, the Town of Colonie Planning Board granted final project approval and negative declaration pursuant to the State Environmental Quality Review Act (SEQRA). The project went to bid and construction commenced in the spring of 2016. The project leveraged many of services that Verity Engineering offers spanning from land acquisition due diligence through Construction Services.
