Afrim Sports Park
To meet Afrim Sports’ growing demand required organic growth. Afrim Sports acquired property in the Town of Colonie as a place to expand and build a state-of-the-art sporting complex.
The site is located adjacent to and required extensive coordination with area archaeologists to develop a plan that minimized impacts to historically significant areas. This project involved the construction of an 88,000 square foot, air-inflated, multi-sport indoor dome, four outdoor artificial turf fields, and appurtenant features.
Municipal sanitary sewer was extended approximately 800 feet, including a crossing under New York State 155. Municipal water was extended approximately 1,900 to provide service to the development and capacity for future developments.
Verity Engineering, working with area suppliers and contractors, developed the drainage design for the artificial turf fields. Green infrastructure practices including bioretention areas and infiltration basins were designed to provide required stormwater treatment. Construction began the spring of 2018 and the facility opened to the public in January 2019.

This project involved the construction of a 4,200 square foot express carwash tunnel, a 3,200 square foot building addition, new municipal sewer and water connections including establishment of new utility districts, zoning variances, municipal law amendment, local, county and state permitting, site lighting and landscaping, parking for over 75 vehicles, and stormwater management solutions. The site was developed to minimize impact to conservation resources such as on-site wetlands. The design leveraged ideal site conditions to incorporate very cost-effective stormwater practices.

Hudson Shores Park Play Trail
After assisting with the Hudson Shores Park Master Plan, Verity completed construction documents for the riverfront shared use path. Rather than installing a playground, play elements, such as balance beams or step stones, will be located along the trail. The trail restores and enhances existing access along and to the Hudson River waterfront while creating an additional attraction to the park. In addition to design, Verity assisted throughout the construction process and grant requirements.
In addition to designing the play trail, Verity is also assisting the City of Watervliet with grant applications for other elements of the master plan, locating a restaurant within the park, and enhanced docks.
