To meet Afrim Sports’ growing demand required expanding. Afrim Sports acquired a centrally located parcel located in the Town of Colonie as a place to build a state of the art sporting complex.

The project involves the construction of an 86,400 square foot, multi-sport, air-inflated dome with an attached 8,680 square foot clubhouse. Also included are four outdoor artificial turf fields and appurtenant features. The site is located in a challenging commercial zone with an historic overlay. The project required extensive coordination with area archaeologists, Shaker Heritage Society, and New York State Parks, Recreation, and Historical Preservation to develop a plan that minimized impacts to historically significant areas. Over 75,000 cubic yards of earthwork and public sewer/water extensions were necessary to prepare the site. Efficient site planning kept the wetland disturbance to under a half-acre and involved off-site wetland mitigation with the use of the Wetland Trust In-Lieu Fee Program.

Verity Engineering worked with area suppliers and contractors to develop the most efficient drainage design for the artificial turf fields. Green infrastructure practices including bioretention areas and infiltration basins were designed to provide cost-effective stormwater management.

In April 2018 construction began on the facility; it is expected to open November 2018.
